Print Jobs
This section helps you to understand the print jobs.
When the first data from a print report is submitted to the spooler,
- A print job number is allocated
- The spooler assignment options are applied as defined by SP-ASSIGN.
The report data along with the spooler options, print channel and job number constitute a print job, which is queued to an assigned formqueue or default formqueue (that is, STANDARD).
You can have unlimited active print jobs in one formqueue. Print job numbers are assigned in sequence starting from one. The overall print job counter is reset to one after COB so that any sequence gaps left by deleted jobs can be reused.
- If the H option is specified when assigning a formqueue through SP-ASSIGN, a copy of the print job will be kept after despooling. This is referred as a hold file. Additional copies of the print job can then be obtained by entering the SP command while editing the hold file. You can use the SP-EDIT command or the equivalent option from the SP-JOBS menu to edit the hold file.NOTE: The presence of a hold file is indicated by the status like FINISHED or HOLD in the SP-JOBS menu display.
- If the S option is specified when assigning a formqueue through SP-ASSIGN, the subsequent print job output is suppressed. When used in conjunction with the H option, this allows jobs to be created as hold files for later despooling. This is useful if you want to postpone large print jobs until a later time, when resource contention is low.
